DAVID MOFFITT. I am sorry to report after a long illness, Dave died late last year. Dave has been a vital part of Delaware aviation for many years. He was one of the
original board members of DASi and longtime editor of this very newsletter. His love of aviation history lead him to become a “founding father” of Delaware Aviation

I would like to take a few lines to tell you about aviation and myself. I grew up with a dad who wished he could fly. He took us to lots of air shows. My first small airplane flight was with a friend of my dad’s. He was a Flying Farmer and a good pilot, but it wasn’t a great experience for me, I began feeling woozy as he frequently tipped the plane over on one wing to cheerfully show me something that seemed to be directly underneath us. Later, my dad began taking me along on one of his flying lessons. I became hooked, and soon they were letting me fly, too.

Our June meeting was successful. Delaware River and Bay Authority treated us to an excellent meal. Steve Williams and Ben Clendaniel updated us on DRBA’s airports, including plans for the future. One option is to move the t-hangars to airport property across Old Churchmans Road, consolidating airplanes that would require similar services. Steve Williams reminded us it would not be the first time the hangars are moved. We are grateful for the time and effort Steve and Ben put into our meeting.

The DAS Board, after much debate and consideration had agreed to endorse the Delaware
Aviation Advisory Board suggest for bills to help create funding for aviation projects
in Delaware. This resolution is in keeping with the feed-back the board received
from the membership.

FUNDING DELAWARE AVIATION
THROUGH NEW TAXES
The proposed Delaware aviation bills have generated a lot of debate amongst the
board members of DAS. To us non-political types, it is surprising that we can
see bills we can completely support and then the next time it passes through our
hands it has turned into something quite different. The two bills, in a nutshell,
are a five cent per gallon tax on jet fuel (agricultural use exempt) and a registration
fee for airplanes registered but not based in Delaware (estimated at 16,500
